The words vendors use, defined precisely.
Ballistocardiography (BCG)
Measuring the tiny mechanical recoil of the body caused by each heartbeat, using motion or pressure sensors instead of electrodes or light.
Egocentric data
First-person video and sensor data captured from a head-worn device, showing what a person sees and does during a task.
Exposure alignment
Cameras whose exposures represent the same physical instant within a measured bound — the real meaning of "synchronised" for robot data.
Exposure timestamp
A timestamp marking when light hit the sensor (usually exposure start plus half the exposure time), as opposed to when the frame reached the computer.
Global shutter
An image sensor that exposes every pixel at the same instant, so fast motion does not bend or shear the image.
GMSL2 / GMSL3
A serial camera link carrying video, control, power and trigger over one coaxial cable up to about 15 m.
Hardware trigger
A shared electrical signal that tells several cameras to start exposure at the same moment.
MIPI CSI-2
The standard short-reach camera interface between an image sensor and a processor, typically over a ribbon or flex cable under ~30 cm.
NRE (non-recurring engineering)
The one-time engineering cost to modify or create a product — design, firmware, tooling and validation — separate from per-unit price.
PTP (IEEE 1588)
Precision Time Protocol — aligns clocks across networked devices, often to below one microsecond with hardware timestamping.
Rolling shutter
An image sensor that exposes and reads rows one after another, so each row is captured at a slightly different time.
Serializer / deserializer
Chip pair that converts a camera's parallel MIPI lanes into a single high-speed serial stream for a long cable, and back again at the computer.
UMI (Universal Manipulation Interface)
A handheld gripper with cameras and sensors that records how a human manipulates objects, so robots can learn from the end-effector's point of view.
Visual-inertial odometry (VIO)
Estimating a device's motion by fusing camera images with IMU measurements.
